Purpose: To experience how participating in God’s Kingdom is our best defense against the world’s corruption
Setup
An outdoor space or a large indoor open space
Supplies
– A rope (or even a long sheet/blanket)
– Tape or string to mark a middle line
How It Works
Briefly explain:
We’re constantly being pulled in two directions—toward selfish desires and toward God’s way of living. However, when we are in community with other believers and when we are actively seeking the Lord with our actions and lives, we can withstand the enemy. We can withstand the pull of our selfish desires and the corruption of the world.
Draw a line down the middle of the space and place signs on opposite sides that say “God’s Kingdom” and “Kingdom of Self” on each on opposite sides of the room and mark the middle line.
Assign 1 student vs. the remaining students to play tug of war
One student pulls on the side of “God’s Kingdom”. The remaining students pull on the side of “Kingdom of Self”.
Explain that when we just try really hard on our own, without the fellowship of other believers and without really participating in God’s kingdom, we don’t really stand a chance against the world.
Now, have almost all the students step onto the side of “God’s Kingdom” and help the one person
This time, the “Kingdom of Self” side doesn’t really stand a chance.
The lesson is that when we actively participate and when we are surrounded by a strong body of believers, we can resist the corruption of the world.
